Best Wine Serving Temperatures
for Red and White Wines

Wine serving temperatures are very important to learn if you want to make the most out of every glass and every bottle that you drink. Far too many people operate under incorrect assumptions or ideas, which results in a wine temperature that is not ideal. The good news is that there are some tried and true guidelines you can use that will enable you to always get the perfect wine serving temperatures for whatever you are drinking.

Most people end up drinking their red wine at room temperature. However, this is not the ideal conditions for drinking your wine. People think that since you don't throw a bottle of red wine in the fridge, that it's always perfect to drink straight from the shelf at whatever temperature the room is. But you have to consider, if that was the case, then why would people traditionally store their wines in a cool wine cellar?

The truth is though that the ideal wine temperature for a red wine is about 55 degrees. This is of course much cooler than standard room temperature, and will make for a much different drinking experience. Of course, the specific wine serving temperatures that you will want to achieve will vary amongst different kinds of wine. When in doubt, a sweeter wine should always be colder, getting down to that 55 or even a bit lower. But a really heavy, dry red could get away with being a bit warmer from that basic recommendation. When buying your wine don't be afraid to ask at your favorite wine shop.

If you're unsure about how to achieve the perfect wine temperature for red wine then consider buying of the best accessories such as a small wine fridge for storage. You'll be able to set it to the exact temperatures and conditions that you're looking for, and then all of your bottles will always be perfect and ready to go whenever you want them. You can even set two different zones to accommodate the different needs of both reds and whites.

Moving on to white wine, people still make some mistakes with the wine serving temperatures here even though it's supposed to be straightforward. Just throw it in the fridge, let it cool and you're good to go, right? That might get the job done, but it often won't produce ideal tasting conditions. The recommendation for white wine temperature is between 45-50 degrees.

This is actually a little bit warmer than the temperatures that your wine will be after being stored in the fridge. In this case, even without a special wine fridge, you can just take out a bottle for maybe 10 to 15 minutes before drinking it. This will give it some time to warm up just a little bit, producing the perfect temperatures that you're looking for.

As you can see, it's really not difficult to start learning about the best wine serving temperatures. But it is important to see these basic guidelines so that you know what you may be doing wrong and how to fix it. When you use the ideal recommendations for wine temperature, you'll notice every wine on your list tastes even better than you'd expect.
