Wine Information

Basic wine information that is interesting and fun to know. Check out the articles linked below and watch the video of how a fancy French bistro owner opening a Champagne bottle with a knife.

Keeping Wine Simple

We have basic information so anyone new to wine can easily follow along, we like to keep wine simple and fun. The most famous wine region in the USA is California's Napa Valley. Would you believe it is not the largest in terms of US wine production? The largest grape growing region is Napa's neighboring area known as the LoCA or Lodi. They grow many varieties of grapes, some of premium quality as well as very affordable table wine that is quite good.

A note about wine prices: "People should decide for themselves which wines to drink no matter the price of the pedigree. They may be pleasantly surprised by what they discover." Say George Taber in his latest book A Toast to Bargain Wines. He goes on to describe a big difference in wine pricing: "...the icon wineries that sell their product for hundreds of dollars a bottle and get breathless attention from press and public, and also the wineries getting little, if any, notice selling inexpensive wines with perhaps high quality but low prestige."

What are those bargain wines that are so good? Which ones are vintage greats and which are ordinary types of wine that are really not worth drinking? The answers take a little time to tell but they are all on this site. Mostly the answer depends on what you want. Here is a quick tip from Taber's book: Queen Elizabeth II serves a favorite from Italy called Rosso Piceno and sells for $8 to $10 a bottle in the USA. That is one example but there are many, many hundreds more.
