What is a good wine to go with the turkey on Thanksgiving Day?

The Thanksgiving meal usually has many different types of food in addition to the turkey. A few favorites are cranberry sauce and sweet potatoes. My recommendation for a nice wine to compliment these foods is a Riesling.

Riesling is an interesting wine because it can be very dry or quite sweet and many shades in between. The bottle is generally labeled to help you make a selection.

For the Thanksgiving feast I would select a slightly sweet Riesling from Chateau St. Michelle. It is a wine that can be found in most states and wine shops, usually costs less than $10 a bottle, and it will be a crowd pleaser because it will satisfy the tastes of many different wine drinkers at the same time. Plus it is hard to go wrong with a Washington State Riesling. In my opinion the quality is very good almost all the time.

Just in case you have a few red wine hold outs you might want to bring along a bottle of Merlot or Zinfandel too. Red wine lovers sometimes don't want to try the white wines.

I would stay away from a Cabernet Sauvignon because it would just not go well with the turkey or the sweet foods in this instance.
