Rombauer Wine

Rombauer Winery is one of those places that takes time to do things right. Yes, they make good wine and are well known for winning impressive wine tasting competitions but it is more than that.

When touring the Napa Valley a visitor finds the Rombauer Winery high on a hill, surrounded by trees, and a beautiful view of the vineyards in the valley below. Upon driving up that hill and seeing the view, you casually walk in the tasting room. It is not a fancy place but don't let that fool you it is one of the best wineries in Napa.

They want their wines to be enjoyed. They even coined a term for it: "The Joy of Wine" which is a taken from the title of Irma Rombauer?s famous book, The Joy of Cooking. The idea is, they want their wines to be enjoyed with food or just with friends, and while dining in a nice restaurant or pick up a bottle at your favorite store. This is not a wine snob atmosphere, instead the winery is a casual place for a picnic or just to stop by to take pleasure in a $10 tasting that includes four wines. They take time to talk to you with pride about the wine, answer your questions, and share a laugh or two together.

Their marketing is similar to most every winery with a wine club that ships two bottles of wine three times a year. These wines are consistently high ratings and manage to sell well in both Restaurants and at local wine shops. In fact, their wines are among the top sellers in restaurants across the country. They are famous for producing quality Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Zinfandel wines.

There are other similarities too. The Joy of Wine tagline message is not that much different from Robert Mondavi, both have themes of enjoying the good life which must include lots of food, wine and friends. The difference is the Rombauer Winery has more of a down home, laid back feel to it where Mondavi is big and grand.
