Famous Red Wine Names

From Around the World

The beginning wine connoisseur needs to become familiar with types of red wine names so that they can begin to understand their own preferences and tastes. After all, learning what something tastes like but not being able to identify what it is doesn't serve anybody much good. There are many red wine names that you need to familiarize with. Once you know the names of wines and the basic qualities associated with each, you'll be able to begin sorting out your tastes in no time at all.

Red Wine Types

In USA wines are chiefly known by the type of grape rather than the region as it is in many other countries.

There are about 1,000 different grapes making up the red wine names out there. Even some of the most avid wine lovers can only name 20-30 different grape varieties.

Interestingly, not every country follows the USA naming a wine after the grape. In France for instance, the place the grapes are grown is much more important than the type of grape.

Famous Red Wine Names

  • Barolo: Barolo is an Italian red wine that is usually very heavy and tannic. A big, bold taste that can go great with red meats and other hearty meals.
