Beginners Wine Guide

If you're new to the world of wine drinking you may be looking for a beginners wine guide. There seems to be so many different varieties of wine that if you're not familiar with all of them it can become quite confusing and even intimidating. But wine should be a fun and enjoyable thing, to be enjoyed with friends and family. So instead of stressing over it, use this beginner guide to wine to help you understand a few basic things and hit the ground running.

Wine and Food Guide
Most people first begin trying wine when they are eating meals. Pairing together food with wine is more art than science, which means there are no hard and fast rules. You can really do whatever you want and whatever you think tastes great. Meals with family and a gathering of friends are times to share stories, to laugh and to entertain. And a great bottle of wine, or several bottles of wine, can go a long way towards making a memorable night.

Glass of White Wine
White wines are usually paired with lighter foods. This includes pasta, fish, chicken and other kinds of food that you generally think of as healthy. This is because white wines are generally light and easy to drink. They are also the perfect compliment to a hot summer afternoon or a warm evening because a good white wine is refreshing and crisp. Of course, there are many varieties of white wines, ranging from sweet, fruity wines to dry ones. Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio and Riesling are some of the more popular white wines.

A Glass of Red Wine
Red wines are usually paired with heavier meals. This includes food such as steak and other red meat, and other hearty fare. Red wine also comes in a variety of flavors and so it can be versatile enough to work in any kind of situation. Few things in life are better than kicking back by a fireplace with a tall glass of a rich red wine on a chilly winter night. Some popular red wine varieties include Merlot, Bordeaux, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and many others.

Wine and Cheese Pairing
Both white and red wines can be paired with cheeses for tasting and snacking. Many people prefer white wine with most cheeses, but again, there are no set in stone rules. Cheese, crackers and wine all work together excellently, there's a reason so many parties and get-togethers are based around these items after all!

Sweet Wines
There are also desert wines, which are very sweet and also have a higher alcohol content than normal wine varieties. These can be enjoyed while paired with a desert item or on their own as a desert in and of itself.

As you branch out and begin sampling more styles and varieties of wine, you'll learn what you enjoy most and which styles of wine work in which kinds of situations. From there, you won't need a beginners wine guide anymore, because it doesn't matter what anybody else says. All that matters is that you find wine that you like drinking and you get to kick back and enjoy a glass with friends and family. Wine education is a big topic and this beginners wine guide has plenty of information to get you started. Salute.
